Darkie Toothpaste

"Darkie" Toothpaste

Yes, the rumors are true - there really is a toothpaste named "Darkie". Far from being a niche brand for Taiwanese KKK aspirants, this is one of the leading toothpaste brands in Asia.

About 10 years ago, they changed the English translation to "Darlie" - perhaps to make the brand appear, I don't know, less blatantly racist and backwards, but they kept the chinese name (literally "black people") intact.

Hey, in a country that allows cigarette brands to name themselves "Gentle" and "Long Life", this is like calling a soap "Hispano". Oh wait, someone's already done that.
